Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar awarded the inaugural Yash Chopra Memorial Award

Industrialist-politician & M.P, Dr. T Subbarami Reddy's TSR Foundation in association with Anu & Shashi Ranjan conferred the inaugural Yash Chopra Memorial Award to Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar at an event held yesterday, 19th Oct at the Grand Hyatt, Mumbai. Dignitaries including I&B Minister Manish Tewari, Praful Patel, Akshay Kumar, Boney Kapoor, Sridevi, Anushka Sharma, Rani Mukherjee, Pamela Chopra, Subhash Ghai & Jeetendra shared the dias with the legendary singer. A distinguished jury comprising of Hindi film personalties such as Hema Malini, Simi Garewal and Anil Kapoor selected the winner this year.

The award, which carries a cash prize of 10 lakhs rupees, has been instituted by Dr. T Subbirami Reddy and will be given to an outstanding film personality each year. "We could not have chosen anyone better than Lata Mangeshkar to receive the award in the first year. She shared a wonderful relationship with Yashji and it is a fitting tribute to the legendary director who worked for close to 60 years in the Hindi Film Industry. The award is in remembrance of Yash Chopra's immense contribution to cinema. I have been privileged to have known him personally for about 35 years and also co produced many of his finest films like Chandni, Lamhe and others" said Dr.T Subbirami Reddy.

Lataji, who despite being unwell graced the ocassion said "I have come here for the memories of Yashji and the special bond that I shared with him. I still feel his presence in our lives and feel he is present right here in this august audience watching us all. I was advised by my doctors not to travel and stress myself at the function, but I had to be here for Yash Chopra"
