This past year saw more Bollywood stars twinkle on this small screen than they did on the large one…
A New Year, a new beginning… So much to look forward to but before we do just here’s a small glimpse into the so much that happened in the year that’s just passed… from PM Narendra Modi and the Congress decimation in the General Elections to the super successful Mars Orbiter Mission to the devastating floods in Kashmir to the conviction, arrest & imprisonment of Ms Jayalalitha to the mysterious death of Sunanda Pushkar to the honored Nobel Prize winner Kailash Satyarthi to the creation of an Indian Kabaddi & Soccer Leagues to Visas on Arrival and so much more…
Regards the “small” screen (which it seems has slowly inched its way up to and in some case even gone ahead of the “silver” screen, both in terms of size and celebrity preference); this past year saw more Bollywood stars twinkle on this small screen than they did on the large one… From all-time favourite Amitabh Bachchan to current favourites such as Salman Khan & Aamir Khan to yesteryear favourites such as Anil Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Poonam Dhillon, Raveena Tandon, Bhagyashree, Padmini Kolhapure, Sonali Bendre, Raj Babbar and many others who shone bright in front of & behind the scenes in Telly-land this year.
As far as content on Indian Television goes, many chartbusters were born & many others were resurrected in 2014… From 24, Yudh & Everest to Dil Se Naachein Indiawaale, DID, India’s Best Cinestars Ki Khoj & Box Cricket League to India’s Got Talent-Season 5, Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa- Season 7, Bigg Boss Season 8’ & Khatron Ke Khiladi – Darr Ka Blockbuster Returns to Got Talent World Stage Live (an extension of the ‘Got Talent’ series) hosted by none other than Shah Rukh Khan.
Nice, fresh story lines made a comeback this past year with the likes of Jamai Raja, Neeli Chatri Waale, Bandhan … Saari Umar Humein Sang Rehna Hai, Satrangi Sasural, Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeh, Pukaar - Call For The Hero, Tu Mera Hero, Hum Hain Na, Humsafars, Itti Si Khushi, Tum Aise Hi Rehna, Itna Karo Na Mujhe Pyaar, Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi, Udaan and Shastri Sisters.
Phew! That sure was a long list of wonderful things that happened in 2014. And if that wasn’t enough, we got bombarded with a seriously high dose of jest on the comedy front too… After Comedy Nights with Kapil came Gangs of Hasseepur, Har Mushkil Ka Hal-Akbar Birbal and now Comedy Classes.
So on that happy note, here’s looking forward to another great year with many more wonderful beginnings. Watch this space as the excitement unfolds! Until then, happy reading!
