EDIT & More...

The airwaves have been abuzz with the alleged antics of self-styled spiritual leaders, the adventures and protests of students, supporters and supposed well-wishers of the now infamous film institute (FTII) at Pune, the remonstrations and demonstrations by veterans of the armed forces vis-a-vis their demand for what we all know as OROP and the Kabhi-Haan-Kabhi-Na over the NSA level talks between the Indian & Pakistani governments, which were scheduled for late last month and were finally called off… Phew! It’s been an exhausting month just absorbing all of this.

Moving from the news channels to entertainment… Judging by the fate of the last few local spin-offs of popular foreign shows – like Hello Friends (adapted from FRIENDS) and Ek Hasina Thi (adapted from REVENGE) or 24 (adapted from 24) – call it inspiration, adaptation, licensed version or plain and simple plagiarism the desi-versions of popular foreign shows still have a long way to go before similar popularity can be enjoyed here as was enjoyed by viewers of the original shows overseas. Yes, many of the adapted song & dance reality shows came close (in terms of popularity only) but others are just dwindling along in the hope that the magic of the original rubs off on them somehow, somewhere. I’ve heard an indigenous version of EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND has hit our TV screens…I guess we have some interesting viewing to look forward to.

And finally, moving towards cinema, another big part of our TV-world… Yes, we do get to see all the wonderful films produced in Hollywood & Bollywood on our little (actually, not little anymore) screens eventually but if you’re like me, why wait? TV movie watching is all about re-experiencing the pleasure... reliving the fun… the magnificence of watching cinema on the silver screen will always remain unmatched.

The next big one I’m eagerly awaiting is called “Wedding Pullav” - an energizing, refreshing and thirst quenching family drama highlighting the excitement of destination weddings, featuring fresh, talented newcomers in the lead roles and which is all set to hit a theater near you, on 16th October.

On that delicious note, I am humbly signing off for now. Until next time, I suggest you quickly try out our cover boy Sanjeev Kapoor’s lip-smacking recipe featured in the pages that follow and Happy reading!
