The first few signs of an eagerly awaiting spring are slowly but surely emerging all around us… the days are getting longer, the weather’s getting milder and the sporadic blooms are all a delight to take in. The Republic Day Parade too, which has almost always taken place under densely overcast skies and slight showers, started with some early morning fog but soon gave way to enjoyable sunshine this year.

The shorter & sharper than usual telecast of the Republic Day Parade… including the new Dog Squad, the French Army contingent march; the women “Daredevils” made it quite a pleasurable watch.

Other than that, in the month gone by, the airwaves were abuzz with debates & deliberations about the pros and cons of odd-even traffic scheme of the AAP government in Delhi, the right for women to pray as and where they wish and the infrequent mentions about the violent episode in Malda (Bengal) - which actually was most conspicuous by it’s absence on the airwaves.

Talking about this incident… The fact that this violence in Malda district was not given a communal twist, the fact that no religious sentiments were hurt, the fact that nobody saw any hints of intolerance in it, the fact burning of Police Stations was not considered anti-national, the fact that no awards were returned by any artists or so-called intellectuals and most of all, the fact that no politician from any opposition party found it worth remonstrating & demonstrating over certainly makes it more news worthy for me. No politicizing the issue… Hmmm… Daal mein kuch kaala to hai !

On that curious note, I wish you all a lovely 29 days of February, Happy Valentine’s day and Happy reading! See you, same time, same place, next month!
