ONE DECADE

Ten long and ever so amazing years have just flown by! It seems like yesterday when we put the first GR8! TV Magazine issue out… The apprehensions, the nervousness, the excitement… Yes, it was fantastic and it has been so every single month since… And, with this anniversary issue I’m proud to announce that GR8! TV Magazine has officially entered the double digits… Yes, we’re 10!

Hearty congratulations and my most sincere thanks to our wonderful team that puts this magazine together month after month, to our readers for their wonderful support & to every member of the most magnificent television industry without whom we would cease to exist. Thank you ALL… Everyone who’s been a part of TV from the times of our single channel Doordarshan & the days of Chitrahaar, to the days of Ramayan & Mahabharat, to the Hum Log & Buniyaad days, to the Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi & Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki days, to the Kaun Banega Crorepati and to the many, many hits and the people behind the thousand plus channels that air today.

Wow, who would have thought TV in India would reach so far so fast. Information and entertainment provided, on demand, at just the flick of a remote control button - almost every remote corner, every single village and town is connected through television today. Given this massive reach you can understand the enormous influence and immense power that TV personalities enjoy in our country today. Every film star, even those relatively unfamiliar, are recognised in areas where they don’t have cinema theatres. TV stars are household names, a part of daily conversation and TV journalists are probably the most feared individuals in our land.

Thanks to the dominance of fact-finding journalists on TV today, our society in general and culture at large too is going through a slow & steady and much needed detoxification ritual. People are getting sensitised about their surroundings, their rights and the rights of others. They are becoming more vigilant, cautious themselves and no longer have a blatant disregard for rules, regulations and the law. Habitual and otherwise offenders are watching their backs and overall as a nation I feel we’re starting to feel a lot more entitled and self-confident.

So, on that happy note look out for lots of 10 greats in this issue and adios for now. Happy 10th Anniversary to you too and cheers to even GR8’er decades ahead… Until next time, happy reading!
