It was a girlies’ party hosted by the sporting Chaaru Aanand on the eve of our vivacious editor Anu Ranjan’s birthday on October 9 at Club Millennium. Husband and publisher Shashi Ranjan, who is notoriously reticent when it comes to celebrating his own birthdays, naturally would have enjoyed a piece of this sizzling action. But Chaaru was having none of it. Women power prevailed, ultimately. And the birthday girl was toasted by close girlfriends from society’s swish set and also lovely ladies of the film, fashion and television industry. You didn’t need to ask these revelers their age (women never tell, anyway) because they got down to the party with a zesty determination and youthfulness that would have the nightclub teenyboppers gasping in pure envy. When the clock struck 12, Anu did not vanish home in a stagecoach… but Mast Mast girl Raveena Tandon, looking as wicked and sinfully delicious as the naughty cake the girls had organized for Anu, took the celebration to a new high by licking the icing off the Birthday Girl’s face! The party rocked on till the early hours with the likes of Alka Yagnik, Bhagyashree with sister Purnima, Sheeba Akashdeep, Krishika Lulla, Maheka Mirpuri, Raell Padamsee, Bina Aziz, Roopa Vohra, Kanchan Adhikari, Shima Khan, Deepa Sahi, Nuzhat Khan, Shanta Rao, Puja Kapoor, Mohini Chabria, Banita Bhicajee, Rajyalaxmi Rao, Reshma Merchant, Reena Gupta, Neelam Roy and others refusing to go home till every crumb of cake had been, well, devoured.
