Jhumma Mitra's Surprise Birthday Party

Popular comic actress Jhumma Mitra, who plays Durga Ganguly in Eagles Films’ Jeannie Aur Juju, was deeply moved when her close friends and co-stars demonstrated their love for her by organizing a surprise birthday bash for her yesterday!

The cast of Jeannie Aur Juju had been shooting round-the-clock for several days owing to the break they took on New Year’s eve. “Everyone was quite tired and disoriented yesterday,” says Jhumma. “No one looked in the mood for my birthday celebrations – so I decided not to make a song-and-dance about it.” But all day, when no one came to wish her on her birthday, Jhumma admits she felt bad. It was only after shooting for the day ended that her co-star and close friend Ashiesh Roy suggested that they go to a suburban pub for dinner. “Ashiesh said that he wanted me to meet someone. So, feeling a little sad, I walked into the pub and then, all of a sudden, pandemonium broke loose! There were buntings streaming down, a gorgeous birthday cake on the table, and my closest friends appeared almost magically singing ‘Happy Birthday To You…’ for me. I was speechless!”

It seems that Jhumma’s close pals Ashiesh and actor Niveen have been planning this surprise party for weeks in advance. “For many years, we’ve been missing  Jhumma’s birthday because inevitably everyone is away for the New Year,” informed Niveen. “So this year, we all decided to postpone our respective trips to celebrate her big day with a big bash!” exclaimed Ashiesh. So the two boys secretly contacted all of Jhumma’s closest friends, fixed the venue and designed the birthday cake. “The toughest call was not to wish her on her birthday,” said actress Smita Singh, who flew in all the way from USA just to attend Jhumma’s birthday bash.

Everyone broke into song and dance and generally did a lot of dhamaal while Jhumma cut the cake and made sure everyone had a piece. “This has got to be the best birthday I’ve ever had!” declares Jhumma. “Little did I know that behind my back, the gang had planned the party all along!”
