Dear Friends,

This month 16th May 2014 will go down as a historical moment in our country’s politics. After four months of hotly debated issues and non issues, Modi becomes the triumphant 14th Prime Minister of the country. Television has played a huge role in projecting as well as exposing leaders and their real intent. Like in America where television debates and interview play a vital role in people choosing their candidates, in India this time Rahul Gandhi’s interview with a channel set the agenda in people’s mind as to which party they should vote for. So hail the power of Television.

In television world after the super success of Comedy Nights with Kapil, every channel is looking for cashing on the trend. Unfortunately our creative heads have rarely risen to the occasion and mostly followed the ‘Me too Trend’ of emulating the format and style of successful shows. Guthi’s show on Star Plus was a disaster. Now Zee TV has launched Gangs Of Hasseepur and Big Magic launched Akbar Birbal. Hope these shows do not make the same mistake of just another look alike of popular formats.

Out of the clutter, season 8 of Kaun Banega Crorepati has announced their registrations and the show is suppose to go on-air by July end or early August. There is lot more flurry of activities on the Awards front. Life OK has come up with a format which is suppose to be India’s first instant Award to celebrate excellence in the field of Film, Music and Television with 100% audience voting and it will be held every month. Akshay Kumar has been roped in as the face of the first edition of these monthly Awards. My advice is that first food is good to have for a change but if eaten regularly is bad for health.

So on this note of Caution, I wish my peers and colleagues more entertaining television and more innovative television as India is truly changing.
