'SALAAM BETI' - THE ITA-BIG PRESENTATION - FASHION SHOW

'SALAAM BETI'
THE ITA-BIG PRESENTATION
- FASHION SHOW

Anu Ranjan, Co-Publisher GR8! Magazine and President -The Indian Television Academy (ITA), had launched 'Beti' – an awareness campaign against female foeticide, Supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) on Saturday 4th February, 2006. Supporting her in this cause were noted social activist, actress and Member of Parliament Ms Shabana Azmi and Ex Miss World Ms. Diana Hayden. The movement highlights the unfortunate incidents of female foeticide, which is still rampant all across the country:

Female foeticide: The killing of a female foetus. It is also compounded with a deliberate killing or abandonment of a young girl or foetus. According to statistics, over 10 million girls are 'MISSING' from India's population due to the country's gender discrimination as a result of which there is foeticide, sex selective abortions, and neglect. These and other such poignant questions will be raised and highlighted through this nationwide awareness drive (supported by the UNFPA), aimed at educating people who are destroying the very fulcrum of Nature's balance.

In this context various events are undertaken which included, in the past, a fashion show & two consecutive years of celebrity charity cricket match which was wholeheartedly supported by the who’s who of the Fashion, Television & Film Fraternity.

This year yet again we are organising The ITA-BIG Celebrity Fashion Show 'SAALAM BETI' on 9th August 2008 at ITC Grand Maratha Sheraton for creating awareness amongst those ignorant fellow-citizens of ours, who are indulging in this heinous act of terminating the Girl Foetus, which, in turn, is causing an alarming imbalance of Genders, as created by Mother Nature. This is all to support the “beti” movement, spread a word about it so that this heinous crime can be stopped…
