Amrita Rao

Winner of the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Academy Award, Amrita Rao is one of the most versatile actresses in Bollywood today. She has caught many eyeballs with her glam makeover but still her girl-next-door image has not shredded from the minds of the people. After making her presences felt on the Silver Screen, her stint on TV with Perfect Bride was much-admired by one and all. So let’s see what this gorgeous damsel has to say about her venture on the small screen. Amrita Rao in conversation with GR8!

Perfect Bride was your first stint on Television, so how was the experience?

Excited and nervous! I think television caters to a larger target audience and it’s the best medium to reach out to majority of your fans. I think this reality show has given me high recall value amongst the audiences and definitely a higher TRP for the channel (Laughs). After the big screen, small screen is just a cake walk.

Are you a TV buff?

If I had to rate myself on a parameter from 1-10, it would be 6 since I don’t find the time to be glued to the television. But one of the ways I like to unwind is in front of the television and watch what’s happening in the world or just brush up my sense of humour with comedy chat shows or do an impromptu dance number by watching a music channel.

Which shows do you watch regularly?

Balika Vadhu, Bidaai, Lost, The Practice, Roadies.

Your favourite shows over the years have been?

Friends, Who’s Line Is It Anyway.

Your favourite shows as a kid?

Jungle Book, Malgudi Days.

Your favourite TV personality?

Shekhar Suman, Rakhi Sawant, Ronit Roy, Smriti Irani.

Your favourite Bollywood star on TV?

It has to be King Khan for his charismatic appeal and witty sense of humour. Even Salman Khan and Big B as they are great entertainers par excellence.

If you could change one thing on Indian TV, what would it be?

It would have to be the social mindset and the drab saas-bahu serials that are nothing short of public dramas to win the accolades of idle minds. We need to showcase more reality in our serials instead of posing the untruth and creating complications in the lives of many.

In one line, Indian Television is…

One stop entertainment for the entire family.
