At the risk of repeating myself...

...for possibly the tenth time, I must reiterate that our News Channels are by far the best “entertainment” channels we have on TV. Like me, there are millions who are literally hooked to these channels for our daily dose of “amusement”. Yes, our protagonist, which includes most of the politicians (and which till now sort-of, kind-of excludes the India Against Corruption crew) and their antics are a source of endless scandal, indignity and shame.

In spite of us, the people, being quite accustomed to seeing corruption happen day in and day out, right under our noses, I must say the skeletons that have recently poured out closets are still shocking to say the least and totally reprehensible.

The Robert Vadra stories and his DLF / Haryana Government nexus is truly nothing extraordinary but the way the government sent out this deluge of its stooges to defend (the indefensible I must add) was nothing short of preposterous. We all understand their undying loyalty to the High Command & her family and their need to defend and protect them till death-do-them-part but we also recognize gibberish when we hear it – Poor Manish Tiwari, Renuka Chaudhry, Digvijay Singh, Salman Khurshid, Jayanti Natrajan - They obviously don’t think twice about making a comic of themselves on national television but given they are all people of at least average intelligence, they have to know that nobody out there is a fool and that nobody believes a single word they said in this defense.

Moving on to other episodes – The Salman Khurshid chapter was curious too – his arguments and justification may have been valid but his over emotional rhetoric weakened his case significantly – he could’ve just acknowledged the IAC discoveries and stated that since they were news to him too, he would have them looked into, probed and would revert with his findings. The matter would have ended.
Then came the Gadkari expos– Again, we the people know for a fact that there’s a lot of black in the lentils here and he’s going to have to pay the price for this sooner if not later but fortunately the media gag by the BJP is not making matters worse. At least funnymen are not being sent out to defend what we all know is wrong doing, no matter which way you look at it. Let’s see how this unfolds.

There was a lot more that went on this past month but instead of getting into those tales I must congratulate the news channels for their fearless persistence as sleuths in further uncovering all the grime that lies beneath the surface – be it in the case of Vadra, Khurshid, Virbhadra Singh, Gadkari et al. It takes guts to expose the powerful in our nation and hats off to all for their courageous pursuits.
A lot is at stake for them and it’s a filthy job but they do it, unrelenting, everyday. Congratulations again and keep up the splendid work, all of you!

Finally and before I sign off, I must inform you that the 12th.Annual Indian Television Academy (ITA) Awards will be taking place shortly, November 04, 2012, in Mumbai. It’s going to be another fantastic, mind-blowing, unparalleled event and the entire industry is geared up for it. Details of the event will be telecast on STAR TV and covered in totality in our next issue so do not miss those.

And, on that note, I wish you and your families a very happy Diwali - May your year be filled with peace and many blessings – Enjoy and until next time, happy reading!
