There were reports that Star Plus is very annoyed at Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai actress Kanchi Singh for her personal equation  with co -star Rohan Mehra. It was felt that since Kanchi (character  name  Gayu) and  Rohan ( Naksh)  play on screen cousins, public appearances of them as a couple was affecting the show, as conservative viewers were not liking it. Apparently, the channel had given them a warning, but when both refused to heed counsel an upset channel asked the production house to shift the emphasis away from them to Shivangi Joshi, who plays Naira.

However, when we spoke to Kanchi, she gave a different version. “ I have not been given  a warning.   And  I don’t think the channel will intervene as this is a personal matter. Also we are not school student’s that we will be pulled up like this.”  She  also dismissed the  shifting of emphasis  by saying that ,“If you watch the episode, Shivangi ‘s track was always more important.”
