Reports of and consequent debates...

...and discussions on yet another heart wrenching occurrence dominated the airwaves for the better part of last month. The assault and rape of a 5-year-old girl in the capital sent shockwaves across the nation. Protests and agitations erupted everywhere vis--vis the absence of tough policing, the dearth of stringent laws and the deficiency of good governance – these were still on and gaining momentum at the time of our going to press.

In spite of having gone through a comparable (if not worse) situation just a few months ago, zilch seems to have changed. Agreed there’s only so much that can be done in this time to overhaul the system or the perverted mindsets, but something to at least deter the culprits could have been managed. A perception of zero tolerance, of maximum humiliation and the greatest reprimand for such acts should have been drilled into our heads. Instead of campaigns trying to convince us of the progress and development that the government has supposedly done, matters such as this should have been the focus. More women should have been deployed into the police forces. Manhunts (such as the one we saw in Boston recently) should be undertaken to find offenders, immediately. For God’s sake, this crime was being committed in the victim’s neighbor’s house… If only the police had bothered… bothered to let the parents lodge a missing person’s report and then bothered to look a few feet around her house, such a ghastly crime could have been prevented from happening. But no, the Top Cop in Delhi praises his men for a job well done, the Home Minister dismisses criticism he’s getting by saying such things happen all the time, saying it can happen anywhere and all our other politicians continue on with their tu-tu-main-main squabbles & blame games… It is indeed so sad!

Our country is definitely in need of that overhaul… We need strong leaders at the helm of affairs, spearheads who don’t take no for an answer and who make things happen. We’re tired of hearing about what politicians and parties think should be done, we need somebody to go out there and do it. Stop telling us you want to connect with us, just do it. Have the guts to take drastic measures and see how the country respects you. Stop fighting amongst yourselves for power, instead get together and fight the evils that are destroying our social fabric and relentlessly punish the immoral. Where is our Neelkanth, our savior..? We’re all desperately seeking and anxiously waiting his/her arrival… Hope he’s / she’s here soon.

And, while we wait, here’s to another interesting IPL season… not as thrilling as last year but still entertaining enough. No one team seems to be slamming-jamming… Chennai, Rajasthan, Begaluru, and surprisingly Hyderabad… all stand a chance at winning at this point in time. Lots of excitement to follow… It’s going to be an action packed month of May. Buck up Mumbai Indians!

Support ‘BETI’ the NGO that supports atrocotied against women .We cannot stop these crimes but we can ensure these helpless victims get help.

And that’s it for now… Wishing you beautiful sunshine days… Enjoy and until next time, happy reading!
