At the time of our going to press, eye balls, TRP’s and news are all for and about the Indian Premier League (IPL) Season 6

At the time of our going to press, eye balls, TRP’s and news are all for and about the Indian Premier League (IPL) Season 6 (which is shortly coming to a close) – IPL 6 is dominating the airwaves, literally. It is overshadowing anything and everything in the world of the desi-telly land… be it the news, entertainment, business, politics & yes, sports too!

News channels and drawing room discussions are almost all pertaining to the IPL and connected affairs of the season – Illegal betting scandals are being uncovered, corrupt players, bookies, celebs & team owners involved in the racket are being exposed, money trails are being uncovered and temptresses or what they call “honey traps” are being discovered daily.

Considering the powerful people involved in these indecent exposures the judiciary is taking serious notes and the Parliament is being pressured to bring the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) under the lens of the RTI… which it should have many, many eons ago.

Some businessmen are pulling out of the IPL while all others are busy covering their tracks. Underworld dons are giving telephonic interviews clarifying their non-involvement in this scandal (huh, did we actually expect them to admit masterminding it). Rival sporting nations are enjoying the drama but most of all it seems Lalit Modi is having the last laugh. After being shamed, sacked and then pretty much exiled by the currently-in-huge-trouble boss of the BCCI, I’m sure he’s enjoying watching the skeletons tumble out of Mr Srinivasan’s closet thoroughly.

Other than that, there’s only so much excitement left in the game… yes, we are watching every ball closely but that’s mostly looking out for the bowlers’ towel placements, wristbands positions, tee shirts, headbands, nose itch and similar stuff and placing bets of our own as to whether that ball/over is fixed or not. As far as the end result of this season is concerned, at this point Chennai has the brightest chances of winning the IPL 6 (not much of a surprise, huh?) with Mumbai, Hyderabad or Rajasthan coming in next. Let’s see what comes out of that.

And that’s it for now… Hope you’re loving your summer break… Enjoy and until next time, happy reading!
